Therapy

I understand how daunting the search for the right therapist can be. Hopefully the information I provide here will help you make an informed decision.

Choosing the right therapist is like choosing the right medical doctor. You are putting your health in the hands of another person. That’s scary. You want someone you feel comfortable with because you will be sharing very personal information, possibly things you have never told anyone before. You can’t share this with just anyone. It will be important to find a professional who has experience working with the issues you need help with. You want someone who knows what they’re doing. Let me help you navigate that process.

What can you expect?

Unfortunately, therapy is not an overnight miracle cure. It is a process that takes time. Just think, it has taken you all these years to create your patterns, it will take a good amount of time to change those patterns. Sometimes you can expect to feel worse before you feel better. Why? Because you are going to be uncovering emotions that have been stored down deep for a long time. In order to feel better you have to work through those feelings.

However, psychotherapy has been scientifically demonstrated to benefit most people in most situations. Benefits might include removal of depression and new, healthy ways of dealing with anxiety. You will learn new tools for getting through uncomfortable moments and moods. You may be better able to cope with social or family relationships, and so receive more satisfaction from them. You may better understand your personal goals and values and thus grow and mature as a person.

In addition to “everyday” therapeutic issues that I work with, the following are my areas of specialty:
